3 Healthcare Recruiting and Staffing Trends

There’s a lot that goes into healthcare recruitment and staffing both from the employer and the candidate's side. It’s a candidate’s market and candidates know what they want and are willing to go to great lengths to find the best workplace for them. Companies will need to keep up with the changing trends to attract and retain top talent. Here are 3 healthcare recruiting and staffing trends that you should look out for if you’re in the healthcare industry.

1. Healthcare Employer Branding

We’ve mentioned this before and we’ll mention this again because it’s so important but company’s need to ask themselves why a candidate should choose you over another company. What makes your company unique?  75% of job seekers consider an employer’s brand before even applying for the job. This tells us how important employer branding is.

You might ask yourself, ok what do you mean by branding? Employer branding refers to highlighting particular strengths of your company so that it differentiates you from others. This is usually done through social media platforms such as Linkedin or Instagram. But you can also see it done on job portals.

Here’s some tips to keep in mind when branding your organization

  • Craft an employer brand promotional plan and emphasize your tactics and techniques to acquire and retain top talent
  • Build a career site to give applicants the information they need before applying, like company culture, compensation packages, employment opportunities and more
  • Depict your workplace environment using pictures or videos
  • Get your current employees to share their experiences and stories at your healthcare organization.

2. Virtualization of Recruitment and Onboarding Processes

COVID-19 speed up the process of going virtual. A survey done by Recruitics found that 94.9% of in-person interviews and 83.1% of in person hiring events were canceled, postponed and/or made virtual. Although this was a quick shift in the industry, the industry can make up their losses with virtualization and automation tools. This can be seen through virtual career fairs, hiring fairs and interviews. Virtual events are more accessible, less expensive (as there are no travel costs, venues fees, catering etc) and are efficient to plan and conclude.

There are lost of platforms which can be used for virtual events such as Hopin and Hubilo

We’re also starting to see the virtualization of the onboarding process with companies asking their employees not to come into the office (unless essential).

3. Using Technology in Recruitment Methods

No doubt technology is playing a big role in every industry. Similarly, healthcare organizations can use more sophisticated and advanced technology to find, attract and retain top talent.

AI technology can help reduce bias, anonymize candidates and focus on their skills instead of age, gender or race. AI can also be used by recruiters during the screening and interview scheduling process.

Making sure you’re aware of these trends and act accordingly is important in order to secure top talent and not fall behind.
