Field Engineer – Machine Design
Location: Remote Work Permitted. In-Office only as required. Office is located in Vaughan, ON.
Ideal candidate will be in Guelph, Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo , Mississauga, Brampton region.

Travel: 60% travel to USA and Canada. Extensive travel up to 2 weeks per month to USA Sites. On-Site Customer Support to Canadian clients. All expenses for travel is paid (Hotels, Airfare, Rental Car). Mileage paid for on-site support to Canadian clients.

Compensation: Competitive Base Salary $110,000 + Vacation (Based on Experience/Seniority) + 3%-5% profit sharing. Mileage covered when traveling to customer sites. For travel to USA/Canada sites- all Airfare, hotels and rental cars are paid for.

Reporting to the VP Operations (P.Eng, MBA), this role is responsible for all product development activities, custom engineering and factory support. The Field Engineer will interact with the customer (Customer solution development), develop and delivery an appropriate solution to the client. Role will participate in Custom Engineering/Machine Design and installation/assembly of safety equipment and training shop floor personnel in its installation and use. Our client is a leading manufacturer/designer of Safety Equipment used within large Manufacturing and Warehousing operations (Minimum 300 – 500 Dock Doors – 600 trucks per day).  

You will be responsible for:

  1. Being Voice of Customer (VOC). Design and develop new products using SolidWorks based on market research; including mechanical/electrical (and function specification – based on complexity).
  2. Interact with customers and potential customers to understand their needs, train their staff and support sales.
  3. Hands-On Installation equipment both at customer locations and within the firm’s factories.
  4. Bring ideas and concepts forward to be considered for study based on market needs.
  5. Assess costs of both new products developed and in-house production equipment.
  6. Provide engineering input on strategic planning processes. Develop and implement plans to support the approved business direction.
  7. For new products, determine how best to manufacture and support product launch.
  8. Work with the VP of Operations as required in a variety of technical files.
  9. Work with the team with regards to the scope, cost, and schedule of projects. These projects may range in complexity including developing completely new products, reverse engineering, and customizing solutions.




You will possess:

  • Education:
    • University degree in mechanical engineering with four to ten years related experience and/or training, combined with four to ten years of shop floor related experience.
    • OR
    • Millwright designation with four to ten years of related hands-on experience.
  • Experience in Machine Design of Metal Fabricated Parts in SolidWorks is Mandatory
  • Experience in Assembly and Hands-On Installation is Mandatory
  • Experience in welding or machining is considered to be an asset.
